Base Salary
$130k - $220k/yr
Responsibilities
- Build intent routers, orchestrators, response-generation systems, and escalation logic.
- Develop retrieval pipelines that ground responses in accurate customer information.
- Create reliable multi-step tool orchestration with recovery from third-party API failures.
- Build evaluation frameworks for real conversations and regression detection.
- Implement observability and tracing for complex AI system behavior.
- Create configuration interfaces and controls for non-technical users.
- Extend the product to voice with real-time transcription and tool use.
- Improve latency and cost through model routing, caching, and prompt refinement.
- Contribute across infrastructure, data pipelines, integrations, and APIs.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience, including 3 or more years building and shipping production systems used by real people.
- Substantive startup or founder experience delivering real products.
- Experience designing and debugging production AI or machine learning systems, including retrieval, prompt engineering, or model orchestration.
- Experience building and evaluating retrieval systems such as knowledge bases, ranking, context validation, or semantic search.
- Experience with multi-step workflows, tool orchestration or function calling, and production evaluation and testing methods.
- Proficiency in a backend language such as Python, Go, Rust, or Java, with ability to work across backend, frontend, infrastructure, or data pipelines.
- Experience integrating third-party APIs, handling production failure modes, and applying observability or debugging to complex pipelines.
- Real-time or low-latency systems experience, voice, transcription, user-facing configuration tools, and model cost or latency optimization are useful.
