Responsibilities
- Build and maintain reliable, scalable Android mobile applications for Xero’s Payroll product.
- Optimize mobile performance, accessibility, testing strategies, release management, and platform conventions.
- Contribute to cross-platform mobile architecture and collaborate with iOS engineers on shared technical decisions.
- Design and evolve service endpoints, API contracts, and integrations, with opportunities to contribute to backend services.
- Drive architectural decisions, technical delivery, code review quality, and shared engineering practices.
- Mentor engineers through feedback, knowledge sharing, and hands-on technical leadership.
- Use AI development tools thoughtfully to improve productivity while maintaining correctness, security, and privacy.
- Connect technical decisions to employee, employer, and business outcomes while navigating ambiguity and incremental delivery.
Requirements
- Deep Android engineering expertise and a track record of building robust applications at scale.
- Strong knowledge of Android performance optimization, accessibility, testing, release management, and platform conventions.
- Practical experience using AI tools such as copilots, code generation, or debugging tools in software development workflows.
- Solid understanding of iOS conventions and the ability to collaborate on shared cross-platform architectural decisions.
- Experience designing or evolving service endpoints, API contracts, and integrations.
- Ability to contribute to backend services and communicate technical trade-offs clearly.
- Mentorship skills and a commitment to raising engineering capability through code reviews, feedback, and knowledge sharing.
- Exposure to .NET, AWS, and Kubernetes is valuable.
- Customer-focused judgment, comfort with ambiguity, pragmatic decision-making, and a bias toward incremental delivery are valued.
