Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership for an Excel Agent area and drive delivery from design through production.
- Design client and service solutions that understand workbook context and user intent, complete multi-step tasks, and validate results.
- Evaluate performance, scalability, resiliency, disaster recovery, security, and cost in technical designs.
- Establish quality standards, evaluation methods, telemetry, monitoring, and guardrails for reliable agentic experiences.
- Define and execute unit, integration, regression, and security testing strategies and improve automated coverage.
- Lead or participate in incident response, post-incident reviews, root-cause analysis, and reliability improvements.
- Review and take responsibility for AI-generated code, designs, tests, and other engineering artifacts.
- Collaborate with product, design, applied science, engineering, security, and privacy partners on secure, private, responsible, and accessible solutions.
- Break down ambiguous technical work into projects and tasks and deliver secure, tested, maintainable code across client and service components.
- Support deployment automation and safe rollouts using feature flags, metrics, monitoring, and rollback plans.
- Partner on shared components, interfaces, and engineering patterns and contribute to shared technologies.
- Mentor engineers through technical discussions, design reviews, and code reviews.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 4+ years of technical engineering experience with coding, or equivalent experience.
- Coding experience in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
- Ability to meet Microsoft Cloud Background Check and other applicable security screening requirements.
- Preferred: Master’s degree and 6+ years of experience, or bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of experience, or equivalent experience.
- Preferred: experience with AI or LLM-based software development, including AI-assisted coding, code generation, automated test generation, debugging, or code review.
- Preferred: experience developing agentic or AI-powered systems involving tool use, workflow orchestration, memory, planning, evaluation loops, or multi-agent patterns.
- Preferred: experience designing high-scale service architectures and production observability.
- Preferred: experience with applied science or data-driven product development, such as experimentation, model evaluation, ranking, recommendation, or usage analysis.
- Preferred: experience leading technical designs across components or teams, mentoring engineers, and improving AI feature or production-service quality and reliability.
- Preferred: effective communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
