Responsibilities
- Own the technical architecture and evolution of shared platform capabilities spanning cloud services, execution infrastructure, equipment integration, and developer tooling.
- Define modular architectures, versioned APIs, typed interfaces, service contracts, compatibility expectations, and reference implementations.
- Design and implement foundational services for workflow orchestration, resource management, robotic fleet coordination, device integration, local execution, state management, retries, idempotency, and failure recovery.
- Define infrastructure for agentic capabilities including tool execution, context and state management, orchestration, evaluation, and human oversight.
- Establish secure interfaces, identity and access-control patterns, policy enforcement, auditability, data protection, and boundaries between AI decisions, deterministic execution, equipment control, and safety systems.
- Build scientific data-ingestion and metadata interfaces preserving experimental context, provenance, and traceability.
- Lead cross-team architecture, design, and code reviews; mentor experienced engineers and guide technical delivery across distributed teams.
- Partner with product leaders, scientists, customers, and engineers to translate workflows and requirements into reusable platform capabilities and delivery roadmaps.
- Establish simulation, equipment-emulation, hardware-in-the-loop, verification, resilience, performance, and system-integration testing strategies.
- Define operational readiness, observability, deployment automation, runbooks, recovery procedures, and support production services through a 24×7 on-call rotation.
- Lead investigations into failures spanning cloud services, communications, local execution, and equipment interfaces.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including sustained technical leadership for complex production platforms or distributed systems.
- Demonstrated architectural ownership across multiple services and teams from ambiguous requirements through deployment and ongoing operation.
- Deep expertise in cloud-native distributed systems, service design, APIs, and integration frameworks.
- Strong current programming skills in Python, Go, Java, C++, or similar languages, with substantial production software delivery experience.
- Experience building infrastructure for agentic systems, including tool integration, context and state management, orchestration, evaluation, human review, and failure recovery.
- Strong understanding of concurrency, asynchronous execution, message delivery, persistence, consistency, and distributed recovery.
- Experience defining secure interfaces, data models, service contracts, and engineering standards for independently delivering teams.
- Ability to balance reliability, security, scalability, performance, cost, and delivery priorities and influence cross-team technical decisions.
- Experience mentoring experienced engineers, communicating technical strategy, and collaborating across geographically distributed teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, robotics, engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Preferred experience with OCI, AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Kubernetes, Docker, microservices, distributed data systems, event-driven architectures, or workflow orchestration.
- Preferred experience with cloud-to-edge platforms, remote equipment management, robotics or industrial technologies such as ROS 2, DDS, MQTT, OPC UA, or vendor equipment SDKs.
