Responsibilities
- Own the architecture and long-term technical direction of Docker Hardened Images as a platform.
- Drive multi-quarter roadmaps for container hardening while balancing upstream velocity, security posture, compliance, and catalogue scalability.
- Translate customer, operational, and upstream signals into catalogue-wide architectural changes.
- Align engineering, product, security, infrastructure, executives, and customer-facing teams on strategy and tradeoffs.
- Represent Docker in enterprise escalations, customer engagements, and upstream open-source communities.
- Define standards for image definitions, Helm chart adaptation, hardening strategies, and supply chain tooling.
- Solve ambiguous packaging problems involving upstream dynamics, security, multi-architecture constraints, and customer impact.
- Shape integration test infrastructure and developer tooling strategy.
- Mentor staff and senior engineers through technical reviews, designs, standards, and architectural decisions.
- Participate in the paid on-call rotation, debug production issues, and improve reliability systemically.
Requirements
- 10+ years of backend engineering experience, including extensive production-grade distributed systems experience at scale.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Ability to set multi-quarter technical roadmaps and align engineering, product, and executive stakeholders.
- Deep expertise in containers and the Kubernetes ecosystem, including projects such as cert-manager, Kyverno, Grafana, and Istio.
- Mastery of container supply chain security concepts including provenance, attestation, SBOM, signing, and SLSA.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals in code review, testing, source control, CI/CD, and Go.
- Demonstrated technical influence without authority across multiple teams or organizations.
- Experience participating in upstream open-source communities and shaping security-relevant direction.
- Ability to communicate complex technical strategy across distributed remote teams and to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Preferred experience includes Linux distribution or Homebrew package maintenance, organization-scale supply chain tooling, regulated environments such as FedRAMP, FIPS, or PCI, prior Principal or Distinguished IC work, and enterprise container security architecture engagements.
