Responsibilities
- Lead strategic modernization of legacy Java/J2EE applications across Helios platforms using cloud-native AWS and scalable architectures.
- Define target architecture patterns, design principles, and implementation approaches for modernization initiatives.
- Drive experiments and proof-of-concepts, evaluate technologies and architectural patterns, and convert successful results into production-ready solutions.
- Lead architecture, design, and code reviews while influencing engineering standards and maintainable design practices.
- Mentor and coach engineers in low-level design, object-oriented design, and modern software engineering practices.
- Analyze complex legacy modules and recommend modernization or refactoring strategies.
- Partner with DevOps and platform teams on build, release, deployment readiness, CI/CD, and containerization adoption.
- Identify opportunities to use AI and automation to improve engineering productivity, quality, and delivery speed.
- Support distributed industrial systems involving onboard and offboard architectures, machine-to-cloud communication, and edge-to-cloud integration.
Requirements
- 12+ years of software engineering experience with hands-on development and technical leadership.
- Proven Java/J2EE application development experience, including designing and delivering scalable services.
- Strong expertise in software architecture, design patterns, object-oriented design, and low-level design.
- Experience modernizing legacy enterprise applications and transitioning to microservices architectures.
- Hands-on experience with Spring frameworks, REST/JSON APIs, and distributed-system design.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Postgres, SQL, NoSQL, and data-solution design, optimization, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with JPA, Hibernate, JDBC, testing frameworks such as JUnit, Git, and Maven or equivalent build tools.
- Experience leading or contributing to proof-of-concepts, innovation initiatives, or modernization programs.
- Experience with Docker, DevOps/CI-CD pipelines, and Kubernetes orchestration.
- Strong technical communication, mentoring, stakeholder engagement, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Experience with software systems in autonomous vehicles, mining, construction, or similar industrial domains.
- Understanding of onboard and offboard system architectures, communication protocols, networking concepts, telemetry pipelines, and machine-to-cloud or edge-to-cloud integration.
