Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate reliable, scalable, and high-performance systems powering critical products.
- Drive ambiguous, high-impact technical problems from architecture through implementation and production.
- Write production code, review critical code paths, debug complex issues, and make implementation-level decisions.
- Define technical designs and trade-offs involving scalability, performance, reliability, security, maintainability, and development velocity.
- Lead large engineering initiatives spanning multiple systems, teams, or product areas.
- Build reusable platforms, APIs, abstractions, and infrastructure for multiple teams and products.
- Design for resiliency, observability, availability, data integrity, and operational excellence.
- Partner with Product Managers and Engineering leaders to influence product and technical direction.
- Improve engineering practices through design reviews, code reviews, technical standards, documentation, and technical guidance.
- Mentor engineers and identify architectural bottlenecks and technical risks.
Requirements
- 12+ years of software engineering experience building and operating large-scale production systems.
- Strong hands-on programming ability in one or more of Python, Go/Golang, Java, C++, Scala, Kotlin, or C#.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems and scalable system design.
- Strong fundamentals in APIs, data modeling, databases, concurrency, performance, caching, reliability, and production operations.
- Experience designing systems handling significant scale, traffic, data volume, or complex business workflows.
- Understanding of system resiliency, SLAs/SLOs, observability, monitoring, and operational excellence.
- Experience designing clean APIs, services, and abstractions that evolve with products and engineering organizations.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity and independently drive important technical problems to resolution.
- Ability to lead complex technical initiatives involving multiple engineers or teams without formal authority.
- Strong product intuition and ability to connect technical decisions with customer and business outcomes.
- Experience mentoring engineers and raising technical quality.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Preferred experience with product or platform growth from 0 to 1 and 1 to 100, fast-growing technology companies, high-volume SaaS, enterprise, platform, infrastructure, distributed systems, transactional and analytical data systems, developer platforms, workflow systems, data platforms, infrastructure, AI-powered systems, or complex enterprise products.
- Preferred experience with technologies including Python, Golang, React, MongoDB, Kafka, Temporal, and AWS.
