Base Salary
$122k - $165k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead the architectural design of complex backend and distributed systems from inception through deployment and ongoing incident response.
- Own technical workstreams end to end, resolving blockers and driving projects forward with minimal oversight.
- Document technical scope, requirements, estimates, timelines, risks, scope gaps, and documentation debt.
- Consult with clients through technical discussions, presentations, demos, and workshops.
- Translate technical information and engineering tradeoffs for engineers, executives, and other business stakeholders.
- Evaluate proposed work against client value and recommend changes when appropriate.
- Mentor P1 and P2 engineers through pairing, code review, and design guidance.
- Lead smaller project teams of 2 to 5 individual contributors and collaborate with project managers, designers, and other crafts.
Requirements
- 7+ years writing software used by many people in real-world environments.
- 3+ years of Python development and deep expertise across multiple technical stacks.
- Expert-level knowledge of backend architecture, API design, and system design patterns, including microservices and serverless.
- Familiarity with agent development and working knowledge of LLM concepts, including cost, relevance, and speed tradeoffs.
- Experience using GenAI productivity tools such as Gemini CLI, Claude Code, and Codex in development workflows.
- Experience integrating APIs and other systems into end-user-facing applications.
- Strong understanding of SQL and NoSQL database platforms.
- Working knowledge of modern web frameworks, preferably Angular and TypeScript, sufficient to make frontend-aware architectural decisions.
- Experience with a major cloud provider; Google Cloud is preferred, with AWS and Azure also acceptable.
- Hands-on Docker experience for containerizing services, maintaining consistent local environments, and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency with Git or Mercurial, Agile processes, and CI/CD tooling.
- Strong problem-solving, initiative, leadership, communication, and stakeholder-influence skills.
- Enjoyment of client conversations and the ability to explain technical information to varied business audiences.

- Bonus qualifications include experience with an agent development framework such as Google's Agent Development Kit, Angular experience, digital agency or high-growth experience, people management, and hands-on microservices and distributed-systems architecture.
