Base Salary
$144k - $213k/yr
Responsibilities
- Deliver complete solutions across the software development lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing, delivery, and operations.
- Design and build low-latency, highly available backend services for Venmo’s real-time fraud and risk decisioning platform.
- Translate risk and policy requirements into reliable, auditable technical architectures and platform capabilities.
- Integrate and productionize ML models and AI capabilities, including real-time inference and LLM API integrations.
- Optimize backend performance, scalability, latency, throughput, and cost in cloud-native environments.
- Build and maintain deployment pipelines and deploy services to cloud platforms.
- Monitor AI/ML-enabled services for model performance, drift, decision auditing, and explainability.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues, identify root causes, and implement durable fixes.
- Guide junior engineers and advise management on project-level issues.
- Collaborate with Risk Strategy, Data Science, Product Managers, and Architects in a matrix organization.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of relevant professional experience and a bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least 3 years of experience building enterprise-level software; experience with risk, fraud, or payments systems is preferred.
- Expertise in Java, J2EE, Spring Framework, and Spring Boot for scalable backend services.
- Strong experience with API design, relational databases such as Oracle and MySQL, and NoSQL stores.
- Experience with Jenkins and Harness deployment pipelines and major cloud platforms, preferably GCP.
- Understanding of distributed systems, Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud infrastructure.
- Hands-on experience serving and calling ML models and LLM APIs, building feature pipelines, and supporting real-time inference.
- Familiarity with prompt design, RAG, vector stores, agent/tool-calling such as MCP, guardrails, and responsible AI practices.
- Experience using GitHub Copilot, Claude, or Cursor while reviewing and validating generated output.
- Experience monitoring AI/ML services, including model performance, drift, decision auditing, and explainability.
- Strong analytical, debugging, ownership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Preferred experience with Kafka, feature stores, fraud or payments platforms, and MLOps practices such as model deployment, versioning, A/B testing, and shadow testing.
