Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for engineering AI initiatives and define technology direction, reusable solution approaches, and project roadmaps.
  • Lead strategic, cross-functional projects applying data science and AI to product development, design, manufacturing, materials, testing, simulation, and engineering workflows.
  • Develop AI and machine learning solutions using engineering, simulation, CAD, manufacturing, and enterprise data, including surrogate modeling, optimization, inverse design, computer vision, and generative design.
  • Develop agentic AI workflows and multi-agent orchestration integrated with CAD/CAE, simulation, PLM, and internal knowledge systems.
  • Establish evaluation and validation approaches covering model performance, robustness, uncertainty, engineering and physics consistency, safety, guardrails, traceability, and business impact.
  • Collaborate across business units and disciplines to identify opportunities, define requirements, make technical trade-offs, and deliver validated implementations.
  • Mentor less-experienced engineers, promote reusable AI methods, and support adoption across engineering teams.
  • Work with global TE sites, customers, technology partners, and research institutes to develop advanced techniques, validate results, and transfer knowledge.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Computational Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a closely related field, with relevant experience alternatives accepted.
  • Typically 4+ years with a PhD, 7+ years with a Master's degree, or 10+ years with a Bachelor's degree in relevant industrial or research work.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently lead technically complex R&D or engineering AI projects and deliver measurable impact.
  • Deep understanding of data science and AI, including machine learning model development, feature and data engineering, validation, optimization, and algorithm or architecture selection.
  • Hands-on knowledge of generative AI and agentic AI, including large language models, RAG, embeddings, vector search, tool or function calling, agent orchestration, and secure enterprise integration.
  • Understanding of multiphysics simulation and finite element analysis, with practical CAD and engineering design experience; generative or AI-assisted design experience is preferred.
  • Strong programming skills in Python or similar languages and experience with data science or machine learning frameworks and software development practices.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, material behavior, product design, and physical engineering constraints affecting data-driven and AI models.
  • Strong project leadership, stakeholder management, communication, and collaboration skills across functions, business units, and distributed teams.
  • Preferred qualifications include familiarity with TE products and molding, extrusion, plating, stamping, or assembly; AI integration with engineering or enterprise systems; MLOps or LLMOps; model and agent evaluation; data governance; security; enterprise AI deployment; publications, patents, funded research, or university collaboration; and project management or software collaboration tools.
