Software Engineer II, Android
Toast, Inc.Base Salary
$104k - $213k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and implement Android system applications in Java or Kotlin for device policy enforcement, device setup, firmware updates, and app updates.
- Build reliable background services designed to run with little or no user interaction.
- Support new Toast hardware bring-up and operating-system upgrades across device types.
- Expand automated end-to-end testing against real Toast hardware using Robot Framework and related tools.
- Investigate and debug production issues across Toast’s device fleet.
- Collaborate with Product Management, Hardware, QA, and Software teams on scalable systems.
- Make technical decisions with attention to software quality, security, and maintainability.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of Android application development experience.
- Proficiency in a modern object-oriented language such as Java or Kotlin.
- Experience with Android architecture patterns and libraries such as Hilt, AndroidX libraries, and Kotlin Coroutines.
- Experience triaging Android issues with adb and logcat.
- Proficiency with source-control and code-review tools such as Git, Gerrit, or GitHub.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Bonus: experience with Robot, UIAutomator, or other automated testing frameworks.
- Bonus: familiarity with AI-augmented development tools such as Claude Code or Codex.
- Bonus: experience with Android framework, system services, or system applications written in Kotlin or Java.
- Bonus: understanding of mobile device management concepts and enterprise device management platforms.
