Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs within a microservices architecture.
- Build secure, high-performance solutions using Java and Node.js.
- Design and implement AI-powered product features integrated into the Cortellis Drug Discovery Intelligence platform.
- Develop reliable, scalable, and production-ready AI-enabled workflows and services.
- Collaborate with product, engineering, and domain experts to identify valuable AI applications.
- Translate product and business requirements into robust technical solutions.
- Write clean, well-tested, and well-documented backend code.
- Troubleshoot, optimize, and maintain systems for performance and reliability.
- Own technical decisions and contribute to architecture and design discussions.
- Collaborate with distributed engineering teams and mentor engineers or contribute to technical direction as applicable.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
- At least 6 years of professional experience building and maintaining scalable backend systems using Java and Node.js or similar server-side technologies.
- At least 2–3 years of recent hands-on experience delivering AI-powered features or applications in production.
- At least 2 years of practical experience with large language models, AI services, or agentic workflows in real-world use cases.
- At least 2 years of experience designing, testing, and improving reliable AI-enabled systems, including managing model limitations, edge cases, and output quality.
- At least 3 years of experience delivering end-to-end product features from concept and prototyping through production in cross-functional engineering teams.
- Familiarity with retrieval-augmented generation, prompt design, or AI orchestration patterns is preferred.
- Exposure to vector databases or AI-related infrastructure is preferred.
- Experience mentoring engineers or contributing to technical direction is preferred.
- Hands-on experience building and maintaining scalable backend systems with Python is preferred.
