Responsibilities

  • Modify and enhance VistA/MUMPS applications to replace SSN usage with approved enterprise identifiers across processes, interfaces, reports, and audit trails.
  • Analyze VistA routines, data structures, workflows, and dependencies; troubleshoot defects; and implement secure, maintainable code.
  • Develop and execute unit tests and support functional, integration, regression, user acceptance, deployment validation, and production-readiness testing.
  • Collaborate with QA and other technical teams to investigate defects, verify corrections, and support post-release stability.
  • Follow secure software development, PII/PHI handling, VA privacy and security, and applicable NIST control requirements.
  • Produce technical documentation and collaborate with multidisciplinary stakeholders in Agile planning, reviews, and retrospectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years of professional VistA/MUMPS development experience.
  • Hands-on programming experience with VistA using MUMPS/M and InterSystems Caché, GT.M, or a comparable M-based platform.
  • Experience supporting VistA packages, healthcare information systems, application dependencies, debugging, source control, peer review, and unit and integration testing.
  • Understanding of secure software development and strong analytical, troubleshooting, written communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Experience with VA VistA environments and packages such as ADT, PCE, AICS, Record Tracking, or VistA Audit Solutions is preferred.
  • Familiarity with PII/PHI protection, healthcare privacy requirements, NIST controls, HIPAA, FISMA, or VA security requirements is preferred.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum teams, federal healthcare modernization, application remediation, or complex enterprise healthcare environments is preferred.
  • U.S. citizenship is required; candidates must pass a background check and be able to obtain and maintain a Government/Public Trust clearance when required.
  • The candidate must reside within the continental United States.
