Base Salary

$221k - $331k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical direction and evolution of maritime autonomy capabilities and architectures across multiple programs.
  • Develop advanced motion planning for unmanned surface and underwater vehicles while enforcing safety constraints and maritime operating rules.
  • Design localization, tracking, sensor-fusion, observability-aware maneuvering, and multi-agent collaboration capabilities.
  • Develop distributed optimization, task allocation, and autonomous behaviors for heterogeneous teams of vehicles.
  • Build high-performance, well-tested software modules with clear interfaces suitable for mid-to-high Technology Readiness Level insertions.
  • Collaborate with perception, planning, simulation, hardware, and operational test teams to integrate autonomy solutions onto real-world platforms.
  • Deploy autonomy capabilities to surface vehicles, support integration and demonstration events, and analyze mission logs.
  • Research and prototype algorithms, identify capability gaps, contribute to autonomy roadmaps, and mentor engineers.
  • Travel to offices, customer sites, and flight integration events, typically around 25% of the year.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a similar field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 10 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree, 9 years with a master’s degree, 7 years with a PhD, or equivalent work experience.
  • Proficiency in C++ and Python and familiarity with real-time operating systems.
  • Significant experience with robotics technologies involving motion planning, behavior modeling, decision-making, or autonomous system design.
  • Significant experience with unmanned systems and related algorithms.
  • Experience with simulation tools and environments such as AFSIM and NGTS for testing and validation.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and optimize system performance in multidisciplinary environments.
  • Ability to obtain a SECRET clearance.
  • Preferred experience includes multiple aerospace domains, classical control, optimization, applied ML/RL, collaborative behaviors, swarm robotics, DoD or government programs, and live integration or demonstration events.
