Responsibilities
- Design, build, operate, and own critical BaseOS backend services and distributed systems at scale.
- Set architectural direction, including system design, data models, service boundaries, engineering standards, and long-term system evolution.
- Develop backend systems, APIs, infrastructure, and workflow systems using Go, Python, and related technologies.
- Build reliable, repeatable infrastructure with Terraform and AWS and treat infrastructure as a product.
- Coordinate systems for deployments, device control, and operational processes across a distributed battery fleet.
- Partner with hardware, deployment, and operations leaders to solve cross-functional problems and translate real-world constraints into software design.
- Mentor engineers through code reviews, design feedback, and technical leadership.
Requirements
- 6+ years of professional software development experience with a record of owning and shipping production systems.
- Deep proficiency in a backend language such as Go, Python, or Java.
- Production experience building and operating distributed systems, including designing around real-world failure modes.
- Fluency with AWS or GCP and containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with infrastructure as code, such as Terraform, and ownership of services used by other teams.
- Ability to design systems end to end, from API design and implementation through operation and deprecation.
- Product and business judgment, including the ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-engineers.
- Experience driving cross-functional alignment across hardware, deployments, and operations.
- Strong ownership, communication, decision-making, and technical leadership skills.
- Preferred experience includes IoT systems, real-time control systems, workflow orchestration such as Temporal, or DevOps practices at fleet scale.
