Base Salary

$106k - $155k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Own the reliability of Lumen’s Network as a Service platform and serve as a subject matter expert for its applications, services, and hosting environments.
  • Build and maintain observability capabilities, including instrumentation, metrics, dashboards, visualizations, and proactive alerting.
  • Define and promote SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, resilient architecture, and other core SRE practices.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, lead incident response, conduct blameless postmortems and root cause analysis, and track corrective actions to completion.
  • Automate deployment pipelines, cloud infrastructure provisioning, scaling, and configuration using infrastructure as code.
  • Develop tools and utilities that reduce operational toil and apply AI-assisted and agentic workflows to development, support, and incident investigation.
  • Collaborate with development, operations, architecture, engineering, and systems development teams to enhance and scale NaaS applications.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and maintain process and architecture documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in engineering, computer science, or a related field.
  • At least 8 years in software development, systems engineering, and/or networking and at least 5 years of related experience.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform, including compute, networking, and identity services.
  • Strong automation and infrastructure-as-code skills using Terraform, Ansible, and Python.
  • Experience running containerized workloads on Kubernetes.
  • Working knowledge of observability and monitoring tools such as Datadog, CloudWatch, Grafana, and Prometheus, including dashboard and alert creation.
  • Demonstrated incident management and blameless postmortem experience.
  • Comfort using AI-assisted development and agentic tools in daily engineering work.
  • Understanding of Internet, Ethernet, IPVPN, Edge Compute, and Optical transport technologies.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, work autonomously, and escalate appropriately.
  • Preferred qualifications include multi-cloud experience across AWS, Azure, and GCP; asynchronous programming and distributed systems design; zero-downtime deployment; high-availability and multi-region architectures; source control and CI/CD at scale; and agentic workflows for operational support and investigation.
