Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate internal platform services and CLIs for authoring, scheduling, validating, and shipping analytics and operational data modeling changes.
- Improve reliability and operability through monitoring, incident response patterns, safe rollouts, and clear runbooks.
- Lead large-scale migrations and deprecations involving storage or table formats, orchestration, and query engines.
- Drive cost and performance improvements by identifying bottlenecks, right-sizing workloads, and building safeguards against expensive failures.
- Build developer experience through fast feedback loops, golden paths, self-service workflows, and actionable error messages.
- Partner across teams to standardize metadata, access, testing, and promotion patterns while supporting legitimate exceptions.
Requirements
- Design maintainable systems and operate them responsibly in production while reasoning about correctness, reliability, and performance.
- Own production changes through rollout and rollback planning, impact monitoring, and post-launch follow-through.
- Apply systems thinking through clear interfaces, explicit failure modes, and tradeoffs among correctness, freshness, cost, and complexity.
- Reason about backfills, idempotency, schema evolution, and blast radius for downstream datasets.
- Demonstrate proficiency with at least one major cloud platform: GCP, AWS, or Azure.
- Preferred experience includes BigQuery, Airflow or Composer, Iceberg or Delta, data lake or lakehouse operations, and large-scale platform migrations.
