Responsibilities
- Lead modernization of legacy Java/J2EE applications across Helios platforms into cloud-native AWS and scalable architectures.
- Define target architecture patterns, design principles, implementation approaches, and modernization strategies.
- Lead proof-of-concepts and translate successful experiments into scalable, production-ready solutions.
- Influence engineering standards and architectural decisions across the Helios development community.
- Conduct architecture, design, and code reviews while enforcing maintainable design patterns and coding standards.
- Mentor and coach engineers in low-level design, object-oriented design, and modern software engineering practices.
- Partner with DevOps and platform teams on build, release, deployment readiness, containerization, and engineering automation.
- Identify opportunities to use AI and automation to improve developer productivity, quality, and delivery speed.
- Design or integrate distributed systems involving machine-to-cloud and edge-to-cloud communication.
- Collaborate with cross-functional and global teams while influencing stakeholders without direct authority.
Requirements
- 12+ years of software engineering experience with strong hands-on development and technical leadership experience.
- Proven Java/J2EE application development experience, including leading the design and delivery of scalable services.
- Strong expertise in software architecture, design patterns, object-oriented design, and low-level design principles.
- Experience modernizing legacy enterprise applications and transitioning to microservices-based architectures.
- Hands-on experience with Spring frameworks, REST/JSON APIs, and distributed system design.
- Knowledge of Postgres, SQL, and NoSQL databases, including designing, optimizing, and troubleshooting data solutions.
- Strong experience with JPA, Hibernate, and JDBC.
- Experience with testing frameworks such as JUnit and building high-quality, testable software.
- Proficiency with Git, Maven or equivalent build tools, and debugging.
- Experience leading or contributing to proof-of-concepts, innovation initiatives, or modernization programs.
- Experience with Docker and DevOps or CI/CD pipelines, plus solid Kubernetes knowledge.
- Experience with software systems in autonomous vehicles, mining, construction, or similar industrial domains.
- Understanding of onboard and offboard system architectures and their integration in distributed autonomy platforms.
- Familiarity with TCP/IP, messaging systems, telemetry pipelines, and networking concepts used in distributed systems.
- Strong technical communication, mentoring, stakeholder engagement, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
