Responsibilities
- Lead technical design for complex backend features, including design documents, tradeoff evaluation, architecture decisions, data models, and API contracts.
- Design and implement reliable, scalable, and performant backend services using Node.js and TypeScript.
- Develop and maintain testing strategies for scalable services.
- Own services end-to-end from design through production, including observability, performance troubleshooting, and technical debt reduction.
- Collaborate with product, design, and engineering teams to turn ambiguous problems into well-scoped technical solutions.
- Act as a technical lead by setting direction, unblocking teammates, and reviewing designs and code.
- Mentor engineers on technical design and backend engineering practices.
- Build and maintain shared AI tooling and workflows that improve team productivity.
Requirements
- Experience owning complete features independently within a larger product or taking full ownership of small products or projects.
- Experience collaborating with product teams to resolve ambiguity and with engineering teams to design technical solutions.
- Demonstrated experience owning technical design for medium-to-large systems, including design documents, RFCs, and architecture proposals.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, API design, and data modeling.
- Experience building and maintaining scalable, highly available production services.
- Proficiency in a modern programming language such as TypeScript or C#, with willingness to learn new tools and languages.
- Proficiency with a modern, cloud-scale NoSQL database.
- Experience implementing observability frameworks and logging and using them to diagnose production issues.
- Fluency with modern AI tools such as Claude Code and Cursor, with senior-level judgment to direct, review, and own their output.
- Extensive experience with CI/CD and test automation is a preferred qualification.
- Strong understanding of cloud technologies, infrastructure-as-code, and DevOps practices is preferred.
- Experience with NestJS, Kafka, Redis, DynamoDB, or MongoDB is preferred.
