Responsibilities
- Lead modernization of legacy Java/J2EE applications across Helios platforms toward AWS-based cloud-native and scalable architectures.
- Define target architecture patterns, design principles, implementation approaches, and modernization strategies.
- Lead POCs, experiments, architecture reviews, design reviews, and code reviews, and convert successful POCs into production solutions.
- Influence engineering standards and practices while mentoring engineers in low-level design, object-oriented design, and modern software engineering.
- Partner with DevOps and platform teams on build, release, deployment readiness, containerization, and CI/CD adoption.
- Investigate complex legacy modules and drive refactoring, automation, and AI opportunities that improve engineering productivity and delivery.
- Design or integrate machine-to-cloud and edge-to-cloud systems for distributed autonomy platforms.
Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience with strong hands-on development and technical leadership experience.
- Proven Java/J2EE application development experience, including leading scalable service design and delivery.
- Strong expertise in software architecture, design patterns, object-oriented design, and low-level design principles.
- Experience modernizing legacy enterprise applications and transitioning to microservices-based architectures.
- Hands-on experience with Spring, REST/JSON APIs, distributed systems, Postgres, SQL, NoSQL, JPA, Hibernate, and JDBC.
- Experience with JUnit, Git, Maven or equivalent build tools, debugging, Docker, Kubernetes, and DevOps/CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience leading or contributing to POCs, innovation initiatives, or modernization programs.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional and global teams, influencing without direct authority, communicating technical concepts, mentoring, and engaging stakeholders.
- Experience with software systems in autonomous vehicles, mining, construction, or similar industrial domains.
- Understanding of onboard and offboard system architectures, machine-to-cloud or edge-to-cloud communication, and communication protocols such as TCP/IP, messaging systems, and telemetry pipelines.
