Base Salary
$167k - $231k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own Databricks Lakehouse infrastructure across multiple environments, including a regulated Upstart Bank environment.
- Expand infrastructure as code, enforce no-click operations, establish disaster recovery, implement least-privilege and attribute-based access controls, and ensure environment isolation.
- Close compliance control gaps and automate evidence gathering for OCC, SOX, and SOC audits.
- Reduce Databricks and AWS spending through cost attribution, waste detection, compute rightsizing, pruning improvements, Graviton and spot-instance migrations, and Delta Lake archival.
- Evaluate and adopt new lakehouse technologies and improve platform security, efficiency, observability, and reliability.
- Own Lakehouse components end to end from requirements and design through rollout and production support.
- Collaborate with Data Engineering, Machine Learning, Analytics, Compliance, and Security teams.
- Mentor junior engineers, promote engineering best practices, and break complex initiatives into quarterly commitments and sprints.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 5 years of experience in infrastructure engineering, DevOps, or data platform engineering.
- Hands-on experience operating a lakehouse or big data platform such as Databricks, Snowflake, Apache Spark, Delta Lake, or Apache Iceberg.
- Hands-on experience with AWS services including IAM, S3, EC2, or EKS; Python; Terraform or CDK; CI/CD; and Kubernetes.
- Preferred experience implementing security and compliance controls in audited environments such as SOX, SOC 2, GDPR, GLBA, or OCC.
- Preferred experience with cloud or data-platform cost optimization, usage analysis, cost attribution, storage tiering, automation, alerting, monitoring, declarative infrastructure, and cloud networking.
- Familiarity with distributed systems, data architecture, Kafka, and other big data technologies.
- Experience using AI coding assistants or agents for infrastructure development and operations.
- Ability to work through ambiguity, explain complex concepts clearly, and collaborate on complex cross-functional problems.
