Responsibilities
- Define the target architecture and scalable operating model for self-hosted Renovate across tens of thousands of GitLab repositories.
- Architect distributed workers, runners, job scheduling, caching, API and registry rate-limit handling, repository discovery, and onboarding.
- Define version-controlled Renovate configurations, shared presets, update strategies, grouping rules, time windows, and auto-merge policies.
- Establish security, compliance, credential management, least-privilege access, and prioritization for security and CVE-driven updates.
- Implement monitoring, logging, dashboards, and operational KPIs.
- Own project planning, roadmap prioritization, rollout management, and pilot-to-full-coverage deployment waves.
- Coordinate GitLab platform operations, Security, development teams, and management.
- Perform technical reviews, make architectural decisions, coach engineers, and contribute to documentation and developer training.
- Work hands-on on prototypes and critical technical implementation questions.
Requirements
- Several years of experience as a Solution Architect, Lead Architect, or Senior DevOps Engineer.
- Strong experience with GitLab, preferably in large-scale environments.
- Practical experience with Renovate or a comparable automated dependency management solution.
- Strong DevOps and CI/CD experience with scalable, distributed, and highly automated solutions.
- Solid understanding of infrastructure and platform architecture.
- Experience with APIs, authentication, credential management, security best practices, monitoring, logging, and observability.
- Proven project management and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to operate as both a technical lead and project manager.
- Hands-on, solution-oriented approach and fluent English.
- Kubernetes, containerization, cloud infrastructure, enterprise Renovate, and large-scale repository rollout or migration experience are preferred.
