Base Salary
$189k - $236k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead technical design and architecture for the Commerce Platform’s product catalog, promotion engine, subscription, and entitlement systems.
- Partner with product management and Growth, Onboarding, Expansion, and other engineering teams to define the technical roadmap and drive platform adoption.
- Drive complex projects from requirements gathering and technical scoping through implementation, rollout, and post-launch iteration.
- Mentor and develop engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and hands-on technical coaching.
- Use AI tools, automated testing, and data-driven diagnostics to improve engineering velocity and establish team-wide AI-augmented development practices.
- Own platform observability, reliability, and performance by defining and tracking SLOs, leading incident response, and driving blameless post-mortems.
- Collaborate with marketing and business teams to improve self-service management of products, bundles, promotions, and discounts.
Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years in a tech lead or staff engineer role setting technical direction for a team.
- Mastery of at least one programming language such as Ruby, Java, Python, or Go.
- Deep experience building and operating large-scale backend platform systems, ideally in commerce, billing, subscription management, pricing, or packaging.
- Strong command of distributed systems, API design, and service reliability practices, including defining and meeting production SLOs.
- Experience using AI tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude Code in day-to-day engineering and willingness to evolve AI-assisted team workflows.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional technical initiatives, influence without authority, and align engineering, product, and business stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for explaining complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical partners.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
