Base Salary
$158k - $158k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and build scalable, reliable systems for donor platforms, recipient payments, and crisis response tools.
- Own new features and services end to end, from architecture through deployment and monitoring.
- Improve developer workflows, CI/CD pipelines, automation, and test coverage.
- Collaborate with product, operations, and data teams to build tools supporting field program delivery.
- Debug production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement long-term fixes.
- Promote sustainable engineering practices including testing, documentation, and monitoring.
- Contribute to the technology roadmap with a focus on scale, maintainability, and recipient experience.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of industry experience creating production-caliber software and systems.
- Experience with backend architecture involving databases, cloud services, and APIs.
- Experience building infrastructure used to deploy software.
- Experience with strongly typed, object-oriented languages such as Java, C#, or Go, and scripting languages such as Python or Ruby.
- Strong analytical, communication, ownership, autonomy, problem-solving, follow-through, and collaboration skills.
- English language proficiency is required.
- Alignment with GiveDirectly values and commitment to inclusive work with low-income and historically marginalized communities.
- Bonus: production experience with Python and AWS.
- Bonus: experience with payments or financial software and microservice or serverless architecture.
