Base Salary
$145k - $170k/yr
Responsibilities
- Conduct R&D focused on quantum compilation and advances in quantum technology.
- Design, build, maintain, and optimize quantum compilation software for the Superstaq cloud platform.
- Apply software-engineering practices including documentation, linting, testing, and type-checking.
- Interface with Superstaq customers to understand needs and provide timely support.
- Contribute to government and commercial proposals and global program execution.
- Collaborate with experimental physicists and software engineers to translate theoretical concepts into practical implementations.
- Publish research findings in scientific journals and present at conferences.
- Stay current with quantum computer architecture, quantum compilation, and related fields.
- Provide guidance and support to team members in a collaborative research environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, physics, or a directly related field.
- High programming proficiency, preferably including fluency in Python; proficiency in C, C++, or Julia with the ability to learn Python rapidly is also acceptable.
- Experience with open-source quantum software frameworks such as Cirq or Qiskit, ideally including modifying the libraries.
- Professional-level verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in collaborative, cross-functional, matrixed, and fast-paced environments.
- Ability to learn complex topics quickly, solve problems resourcefully, and execute productization efforts.
- Ability to work in the office three days per week.
- Ability to travel domestically and potentially internationally up to 10%.
- Preferred: PhD in quantum computation, physics, computer science, or a related field.
- Preferred: familiarity with quantum error correction, fault tolerance, native gate decomposition, qubit mapping and routing, and variational quantum algorithms.
- Preferred: experience with Stim and backend development using FastAPI, PostgreSQL, or SQLAlchemy.
- Preferred: cloud-development experience with GCP or AWS.
- Preferred: familiarity with GitHub, CI/CD, automated actions, issue tracking, version control, and software-testing practices.
- Preferred: familiarity with security practices such as access control, encryption at rest, key rotation, and logging.
- Preferred: exposure to or interest in frontend and GUI development using HTML/CSS, React, or PyQt.
