Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate distributed platform services and APIs using Java, Python, and Kubernetes or equivalent infrastructure.
- Contribute to Spark-based data pipelines and data processing jobs alongside platform engineering work.
- Build AI, GenAI, and agentic-powered developer tooling, workflow automation, agentic services, and operational tooling.
- Own reliability, scalability, observability, service objectives, distributed tracing, alerting, incident response, and capacity planning.
- Guide architecture and system design across microservices, event-driven systems, APIs, and enterprise integrations.
- Partner with data engineers, data scientists, and ML engineers on platform primitives for data pipelines, feature stores, and model-serving paths.
- Establish architecture, design, code, and production-readiness review standards across multiple teams.
- Set technical direction, mentor engineers, and influence broader GDF platform engineering practices without a management title.
Requirements
- 12+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating large-scale distributed platforms; formal minimum qualifications allow either a bachelor’s degree plus 5 years of experience or 7 years of experience.
- Strong hands-on proficiency in Java and Python; experience with Go, C++, or Scala is preferred.
- Deep experience with microservices, distributed systems, event-driven patterns, API design, service contracts, enterprise integration, domain-oriented design, and low-level design.
- Experience with cloud-native engineering, containerization, Kubernetes or equivalent orchestration, infrastructure automation, and production operations.
- Working-level Spark experience and familiarity with Hadoop/HDFS, Hive, or Kafka.
- Experience integrating model APIs and GenAI/LLM tooling, building agentic workflows, using embeddings and vector search, and applying MLOps practices such as feature stores and model lifecycle management.
- Strong knowledge of observability, distributed tracing, logging, metrics, alerting, incident response, capacity planning, fault tolerance, security, privacy, authentication, authorization, data protection, and secure API design.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Preferred accessibility knowledge includes WCAG 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility best practices.
