Base Salary

$148k - $264k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end design and implementation of APIs, backend services, product capabilities, and platform features.
  • Define API contracts, domain models, object models, service boundaries, and data models using OpenAPI and internal standards.
  • Design and operate high-availability, high-throughput, low-latency systems with strong scalability, resiliency, observability, and operational excellence.
  • Support REST, GraphQL, SOAP, and emerging agent and integration patterns for internal teams, external consumers, and AI agents.
  • Drive performance optimization, capacity planning, caching, resiliency, metrics, tracing, structured logging, dashboards, and SLO-informed decisions.
  • Collaborate with data platform and Product Engineering teams on safe, efficient API and agent workflows.
  • Lead design reviews, RFCs, spike investigations, code reviews, technical guidance, and mentoring for junior and mid-level engineers.
  • Participate in on-call and incident response, root cause analysis, and long-term remediation.
  • Create frameworks, tools, patterns, documentation, and standards that simplify API development and consumption.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in software development engineering, architecting, building, and scaling robust software systems.
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience with hands-on object-oriented modeling and software design.
  • 4+ years of experience designing scalable API endpoints that expose product functionality.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong algorithmic skills involving data structures, graphs, concurrent data structures, caching, and eviction strategies.
  • Experience with REST, SOAP, GraphQL, OpenAPI/Swagger, scalable API development, and API integration patterns.
  • Experience operating large-scale systems with complex product domains, high transaction volumes, and enterprise reliability requirements.
  • Knowledge of contract, performance, system, and integration testing and tools such as JUnit, ScalaTest, Postman, Mockito, Jacoco, or Scoverage.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented design, SOLID principles, domain-driven design, layered and hexagonal architecture, and scalable service design.
  • Experience with continuous delivery, trunk-based development, test-driven or behavior-driven development, and Git branching and merging strategies.
  • Ability to lead collaboration, mentor engineers, write technical specifications and RFCs, and produce API and integration documentation.
  • Experience using AI-assisted coding and review tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or GitHub Copilot; exposure to MCP or similar agent/tool integration models is preferred.

Benefits

  • Annualized base salary ranges are $176,000-$264,000 for the primary Pleasanton, California location and $148,200-$264,000 for additional U.S. locations, with possible bonus and annual refresh stock grants.
  • Flexible work arrangement requiring at least 50% of each quarter in the office or in the field with customers, prospects, or partners.
