Responsibilities
- Develop concepts and design requirements for locomotive energy-management applications.
- Own system and subsystem requirements, design concepts, product descriptions, interface control documents, FMEAs, subsystem design documents, and related inputs.
- Define and manage interfaces across subsystems in compliance with the system solution.
- Support software and validation engineers in developing feature enhancements and technical solutions.
- Define system validation plans and maintain traceability between design requirements and test plans.
- Present or review work in technical and program reviews.
- Own technical concepts, solutions, risks and mitigation plans, and engineering cost estimates for proposals.
- Monitor technical trends and communicate significant issues or developments in a timely manner.
- Mentor junior team members and lead complex or incompletely defined engineering efforts.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in controls, electronics, computer science, or a related discipline.
- Six to nine years of technical experience with established technical leadership in locomotive, automotive, or aerospace product lines.
- At least five years of hands-on embedded systems design and software development experience.
- Strong knowledge of embedded systems design, real-time embedded systems, energy management or optimization, and system validation.
- Knowledge of real-time operating systems such as QNX and Linux.
- Expertise with DDS and standard protocols including MQTT, CAN bus, Ethernet, TCP/IP, and REST APIs.
- Understanding of service-oriented architecture for embedded systems, including SOME/IP and Adaptive AUTOSAR.
- Experience translating customer requirements into functional requirements and design solutions.
- Experience with INCOSE systems engineering standards and DOORS Classic or Next Generation.
- Experience with model-based design using MATLAB and Simulink and with embedded programming.
- Experience with system testing processes, tools, and automation.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, problem-solving, estimation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to work with limited information, balance competing objectives, lead with minimal supervision, and mentor junior team members.
