Responsibilities
- Drive key initiatives end to end from ideation through design, implementation, testing, release, and delivery.
- Design and architect scalable, performant, event-driven and service-oriented platforms for Chewy.com and the Chewy app.
- Build personalization capabilities and write scalable, readable, performant, and tested code.
- Improve operational excellence through monitoring and anomaly detection, with ownership of SLA, latency, availability, and resiliency metrics.
- Participate in technical decisions and collaborate across engineering, product, business, and functional teams.
- Review code and implementations, provide constructive feedback, and document designs, architectures, and solutions.
- Mentor and guide junior and peer engineers.
- Own project timelines and deliverables.
Requirements
- Seven or more years of experience primarily developing server-side technologies such as Spring Boot, Java or Kotlin, Kafka, and GraphQL.
- Five or more years of hands-on experience designing and developing scalable, high-performing, fault-tolerant applications for large enterprises.
- Strong knowledge of Java or Kotlin, Spring, Kafka, GraphQL, OpenSearch, graph databases, Datadog, Jenkins, and AWS.
- Experience with event-driven and service-oriented architectures and systems with multiple domain dependencies and cross-cutting concerns.
- Expertise measuring, evaluating, and tuning application performance.
- Hands-on experience working in a public cloud environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Preferred experience with test automation frameworks, test-driven development, AI-first development and tooling, e-commerce, or agentic commerce.
