Responsibilities
- Build, enhance, and maintain native Android applications using Kotlin across Expedia Group brands.
- Design and implement maintainable low-level designs, APIs, and data models for mobile features integrated with backend services and shared platforms.
- Apply coding, testing, code review, debugging, performance optimization, security, and continuous integration practices.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to refine requirements and deliver features iteratively.
- Integrate and operate AI/ML-enabled solutions for personalization, recommendations, and automated insights while following privacy and security standards.
- Estimate engineering efforts, push changes to production, and triage production issues.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience in professional software development.
- Experience building and shipping production Android applications using Kotlin, including ownership of features or services within a larger mobile application.
- Ability to design and implement mobile low-level designs, APIs, and data models and work with service-oriented or microservices-based backends.
- Proficiency with Android development tools and practices, version control, testing frameworks, debugging, performance optimization, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Preferred experience with Jetpack libraries, Jetpack Compose, Coroutines/Flows, Android Studio, and Gradle.
- Preferred experience with mobile profiling and monitoring tools and diagnosing app-start, scrolling, memory, battery, performance, and reliability issues.
- Experience defining and implementing unit, UI, snapshot, and integration test strategies is preferred.
- Awareness of Android accessibility and inclusive design practices, including TalkBack, touch targets, and contrast, is preferred.
- Preferred experience collaborating in cross-functional Agile teams and applying AI/ML concepts or AI-powered coding and productivity tools to real-world products.
