Responsibilities
- Define target and transitional architectures for microservices-based systems, including domain boundaries, service contracts, and data ownership.
- Create architecture artifacts such as context diagrams, sequence diagrams, service interaction models, API specifications, and deployment topologies.
- Select architectural patterns including event-driven architecture, CQRS, saga patterns, API gateways, and backend-for-frontend designs.
- Guide engineering teams on service decomposition, API design, data modeling, cloud-native implementation, and reusable reference implementations.
- Conduct architecture reviews, threat modeling, and design walkthroughs while managing technical risks and remediation plans.
- Define microservices guardrails for versioning, compatibility, resilience, health checks, retries, circuit breakers, and idempotency.
- Partner with platform and DevOps teams on CI/CD, container orchestration, runtime policies, observability, and incident postmortems.
- Align technical roadmaps with business outcomes and communicate architectural decisions and trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Evaluate technologies and managed services, perform proofs of concept and ROI assessments, and mentor engineers and junior architects.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering or architecture.
- 4+ years of experience designing and delivering microservices at scale.
- Strong proficiency in Domain-Driven Design, bounded contexts, service granularity, RESTful and gRPC API design, and event-driven patterns.
- Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP and cloud services such as ECS, EKS, AKS, GKE, API Gateway, Lambda or Functions, and IAM.
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, service mesh technologies, ingress, polyglot persistence, streaming, and distributed data consistency patterns.
- Knowledge of reliability, scalability, observability, CI/CD, GitOps, infrastructure as code, security scanning, and secrets management.
- Solid experience with at least one modern programming language and framework, such as Java/Spring Boot, .NET, Node.js, Go, or Python/FastAPI.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex programs from architecture through production, including monolith-to-microservices migrations.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Preferred experience includes regulated or high-availability domains, zero-downtime and progressive delivery strategies, API management, developer portals, OAuth2/OIDC, mTLS, tokenization, performance engineering, event streaming at scale, and multi-region active-active architectures.
