Responsibilities
- Own high-throughput event-pipeline services, including backpressure, load shedding, circuit breakers, retries, and dead-letter handling.
- Own the Elasticsearch query and search layer, including pagination, memory limits, and rate-limit behavior.
- Own sandboxed execution of customer-authored logic and integrations with Piano products and third-party systems.
- Drive cross-team integration work, negotiate technical contracts, coordinate rollouts, and create decision records.
- Review code, test determinism, scope epics, and make technical trade-offs with product and business stakeholders.
- Run production changes through Helm and FluxCD GitOps.
- Participate in on-call duty, including alert response, P1/P2 triage, hotfixes, and root-cause communication.
- Improve Claude Code context, agent tooling, and evaluation of agent-written output.
- Maintain platform systems through dependency and TypeScript upgrades, static analysis, CVE migrations, CI work, and legacy teardown.
Requirements
- Daily fluent Claude Code practice on production code and sound judgment about appropriate agent use.
- Strong Node.js and TypeScript experience, including ESM, strict tsconfig, Jest, and Mocha.
- Deep Elasticsearch 8.x experience with mappings, reindexing, sorting, range semantics, deep pagination, and backpressure.
- At-scale Kafka experience with partitioning, consumer concurrency, lag, dead-letter handling, and topic lifecycle management.
- Production ownership experience including on-call, evidence-backed root-cause analysis, Datadog instrumentation, toggle-gated rollouts, and profiling-driven performance work.
- PostgreSQL experience with an ORM, including migrations, indexing, and transaction semantics.
- Willingness to own Kubernetes, Helm, GitOps, GitLab CI, dependency upgrades, and CVE triage.
- Clear technical English and ability to communicate technical positions with product and business stakeholders.
- Preferred experience with MCP servers, agent skills, internal developer tooling, V8 isolates, ClickHouse, Aerospike, ArangoDB, Redis, gRPC, Testcontainers, WireMock, Rush, pnpm workspaces, high-volume multi-tenant data platforms, or maintenance-level Java.
