Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate reliable backend services, APIs, and integrations powering internal AI tools and workflows.
- Create secure deployment pathways with guardrails so non-engineers can launch and operate internal tools.
- Build shared AI capabilities, including reusable skills, plugins, MCP connectors, and a central registry of tools, ownership, and costs.
- Evaluate architecture, model selection, integrations, and build-versus-buy decisions while shaping the internal AI platform’s technical direction.
- Define risk-based review processes and implement access controls, sandboxing, model-usage safeguards, and data-handling controls.
- Move business-critical automations from individual machines to reliable supported infrastructure and improve technical standards and runtimes.
- Drive adoption through demonstrations, documentation, integration support, and collaboration with departmental AI champions.
Requirements
- Significant experience as a senior backend engineer building and operating production systems in Go, Python, or a similar language.
- Experience owning services end to end, including architecture, deployment, secrets management, monitoring, and reliability.
- Experience building AI- or LLM-powered applications for production, including model integration, evaluation, observability, and production failure response.
- Hands-on experience with AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor, plus familiarity with reusable skills, plugins, MCP integrations, agent workflows, and agent orchestration.
- Strong technical and product judgment, including pragmatic tool evaluation and build-versus-buy decisions.
- Ability to work effectively with non-technical stakeholders and treat internal users as customers.
- A security-conscious approach to identity, access control, secrets, and data exposure; formal security experience is not required.
- Nice-to-have experience with Google Cloud Platform, strong Go or Python expertise, product discovery, corporate IT, identity and access management, application security, or organizational AI transformation.
- Candidates must be based in Europe, including the UK, and have a valid right to work.
