Responsibilities

  • Own the SLO/SLI practice for services on GCP, including objectives, indicators, error budgets, and baselines
  • Build security and compliance into reliability practices through audit trails, forensic-replay history where applicable, secrets hygiene, least-privilege access, and audited break-glass procedures
  • Manage vulnerability and patch remediation across JVM and Spring dependencies and container images
  • Establish and run a consistent blameless root-cause analysis practice
  • Build observability patterns covering monitoring, dashboards, tracing, alerting, system health, and business processes without exposing PII
  • Track latency, JVM heap and garbage collection, thread pools, CPU and memory, cloud costs, error rates, and uptime
  • Harden batch jobs and support migration toward durable workflow orchestration
  • Monitor databases and improve slow queries, indexing, lock contention, connection pools, and Liquibase migration safety
  • Analyze client-generated workloads, contract-tier consumption, and anomalous traffic patterns
  • Define actionable alert and runbook standards for squads and on-call engineers
  • Troubleshoot JVM/application, Spring, database, messaging, integration, cloud, network, and workload issues
  • Improve Jenkins/GitHub Actions CI/CD and ArgoCD/Helm GitOps deployments with health checks, probes, progressive rollouts, and rollbacks
  • Support capacity planning, customer/workload cost attribution, and efficiency improvements with Cloud Operations and FinOps
  • Improve tests, observability, operability, and reliability guardrails whenever services are changed

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in SRE, software engineering, or systems/operations roles supporting production services
  • Solid understanding of systems and application design, reliability, failure modes, and performance
  • Ability to read, debug, and modify Java and Spring code, with interest in deepening JVM expertise
  • Experience operating services on a major cloud, ideally GCP/GKE, with exposure to Kubernetes and containers
  • Proficiency with metrics, logging, tracing/APM, and alerting
  • Experience monitoring relational databases and tuning SQL, preferably MySQL, including indexing and query optimization
  • Proficiency in shell scripting and operational automation
  • Practical understanding of production security, secrets management, least-privilege access, and safe handling of sensitive telemetry
  • Familiarity with defining or operating against SLOs and SLIs, or strong aptitude to build that practice
  • Collaborative working style with the ability to influence and enable other engineers
  • Ability to prioritize, work independently, and develop simple, efficient, reliable solutions
  • B.S. in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Preferred experience with Spring/Spring Boot and JVM application servers
  • Preferred experience with Quartz, Temporal, or similar batch/workflow orchestration tools
  • Preferred familiarity with Pub/Sub or Kafka and REST/Feign or gRPC integrations
  • Preferred experience with Prometheus/PromQL, Grafana, and log analytics
  • Preferred familiarity with AI-assisted engineering workflows
  • Preferred familiarity with Vault, GCP Secret Manager, SOPS, SonarQube, Jenkins, ArgoCD, and Helm

Benefits

  • Responsible PTO policy and flexible working environment
  • Up to 12 fully covered therapy/coaching sessions per year, with additional dependent coverage
  • Monthly gym reimbursement
  • Restricted Stock Units with a 3-year vesting schedule, pending Board approval
