Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain Java and Kotlin backend services using Spring Boot on AWS.
- Build and maintain RESTful APIs serving millions of customers across web and mobile platforms.
- Develop and optimize card pay-in services handling approximately £1 billion in monthly customer payments.
- Design database schemas and optimize SQL queries for high-volume PostgreSQL transactional systems.
- Build and maintain Apache Kafka event-driven architectures for asynchronous financial-event processing.
- Develop payment orchestration that routes payments across Payment Service Providers for cost and reliability optimization.
- Write unit, integration, and end-to-end automated tests for financial systems.
- Conduct code reviews and uphold code quality, security, and engineering standards.
- Participate in on-call rotations for Tier 2 production incidents.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, analysts, and engineers on cross-functional projects.
- Resolve performance bottlenecks, scalability issues, and technical debt.
- Apply security best practices for sensitive financial data and regulatory compliance.
Requirements
- Experience building backend services and APIs with Java, Kotlin, and Spring Boot.
- Experience designing high-volume transactional database schemas and optimizing SQL queries.
- Experience with event-driven architectures and distributed services, including Apache Kafka.
- Ability to build reliable payment or financial systems and address scalability and performance challenges.
- Ability to write automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
- Ability to conduct code reviews and follow security and engineering standards.
- Ability to participate in production on-call support for critical services.
- Candidates must be local because relocation support is not provided.
