Responsibilities
- Set technical strategy across multiple product areas and make evidence-based recommendations to leadership.
- Identify and resolve cross-cutting architectural risks before they affect scalability.
- Define engineering standards, architectural patterns, documentation norms, and technical recommendations.
- Raise reliability, observability, security, production-readiness, SLO, incident-management, and threat-modeling standards.
- Lead adoption and evaluation of LLMs and AI agents for software engineering and technical debt modernization.
- Develop staff engineers and technical leads and increase leadership capacity across the organization.
- Own the engineering relationship with AWS, including architecture reviews, early-access programs, and service adoption decisions.
- Represent Motorway at AWS events, conferences, meetups, and internal engineering forums.
Requirements
- 10 or more years of software engineering experience, including several years operating at Staff or Principal level.
- Track record of setting technical direction across multiple teams or product areas with measurable company impact.
- Exceptional breadth and depth of AWS expertise, including production-scale serverless, containers, networking, identity, and data services.
- Experience evaluating platforms and services using technical and commercial criteria.
- Strong knowledge of API and identity architecture, including OAuth 2.0, OIDC, PKCE, JWT, and IAM patterns across multiple accounts.
- Experience setting observability and reliability standards and running effective incident practices.
- Ability to read or write code in most languages and understand systems from browser to data layer.
- Experience developing senior engineers into technical leaders and raising hiring standards.
- Practical experience building LLM- and agent-based systems in production, including evaluation and output trustworthiness.
- Strong public-speaking record at conferences, summits, or large internal forums.
- Excellent technical writing across specifications, architecture decision records, and strategy documents.
