Responsibilities
- Define and evolve the multi-quarter technical roadmap and technical strategy for the k0rdent engineering department.
- Own architectural coherence and interfaces across core k0rdent, AI Infrastructure, AI Apps, and Observability.
- Design high-risk, cross-cutting platform components involving cluster and state management, GPU and AI runtimes, application serving, telemetry, signals, and SLOs.
- Write code, prototype difficult problems, resolve architectural decisions, and drive durable technical execution.
- Establish department-wide standards for API design, testing, observability, performance, security, multi-tenancy, and operational readiness.
- Mentor Staff, Principal, and Tech Lead engineers and partner with Engineering Managers on technical career development and hiring calibration.
- Drive alignment with Kubernetes, CNCF, OpenTelemetry, AI/ML projects, model-serving runtimes, and other upstream communities.
- Translate customer problems and product strategy into technical options while communicating risks, costs, and timelines.
- Represent Mirantis with customers, partners, conferences, standards bodies, technical publications, and upstream projects.
Requirements
- Expert-level breadth across Kubernetes internals and cluster lifecycle, distributed systems, AI/ML workload runtimes, model serving, GPU scheduling, bursty inference autoscaling, and observability.
- Demonstrated ability to design large-scale, multi-tenant systems spanning multiple subsystems and production conditions.
- Ability to define technical strategy two to three years ahead and sequence architectural decisions against business realities.
- Track record of driving technical direction across teams and organizations through influence without formal authority.
- Demonstrated success mentoring senior engineers and raising an organization’s technical bar.
- Ability to communicate complex technical tradeoffs clearly to engineers, executives, customers, and the broader community.
- Strong business judgment connecting engineering decisions to cost, revenue, and risk.
- Strong decision-making under uncertainty, particularly in rapidly evolving AI infrastructure domains.
- Effective cross-functional collaboration with product management, design, sales engineering, and customer-facing teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or 10 years of related experience.
- At least five years in a technical leadership role preferred.
