Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture, design, implementation, and evolution of core frameworks supporting Torc’s autonomous driving stack.
- Define technical direction for real-time C++ components, system-wide data flow, component coordination, error handling, and observability.
- Establish scalable architectural patterns, abstractions, and long-term technical decisions across the platform.
- Collaborate with Behavior and Perception teams to maintain clean integration boundaries and coherent shared abstractions.
- Lead architecture reviews, design discussions, code reviews, validation strategies, and engineering standards.
- Mentor software engineers through technical coaching, architectural guidance, and day-to-day collaboration.
- Drive root cause analysis and architectural improvements for platform reliability, performance, and resilience.
- Define and evolve simulation and validation frameworks for diverse operational scenarios and edge cases.
- Evaluate systems research and advanced architectural techniques for future autonomous driving capabilities.
- Communicate technical concepts and platform strategy across engineering, product, and leadership teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline with 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, or a master’s degree with 6+ years of professional experience.
- Demonstrated success designing and evolving complex production software platforms with ownership of architectural decisions.
- Deep experience with C++17 and recent C++ standards, plus Python for scripting and system integration.
- Experience with autonomous systems, robotics, distributed systems, or complex embedded environments using middleware and publish-subscribe communication patterns.
- Strong experience with testing, continuous integration, and build systems.
- Deep systems-level software design experience, including technical debt management, large-codebase refactoring, and platform evolution while maintaining stability and performance.
- Experience mentoring engineers through technical leadership, architecture reviews, code reviews, and scalable engineering standards.
- Strong mastery of modular and composable architecture, design patterns, concurrency, testing strategies, and long-term maintainability.
- Experience with robotics middleware such as ROS 2, distributed systems design, observability systems, simulation-based regression testing, or data schema versioning is preferred.
- Familiarity with ISO 26262, SOTIF, ASPICE, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, and Bazel is preferred.
