Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain robust, clean, testable, and documented backend services in native PHP.
- Build and optimize high-volume transaction and billing workflows for reliability, idempotency, and data integrity at scale.
- Develop and maintain REST and SOAP APIs for operator, merchant, and third-party integrations.
- Design schemas and optimize queries, indexes, and database performance across MySQL, MariaDB, and PostgreSQL.
- Integrate payment, messaging, SMS, USSD, carrier, monitoring, and billing systems and gateways.
- Implement asynchronous processing with message queues and caching layers.
- Ensure application security, resilience, logging, metrics, alerting, and observability in a high-availability environment.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, code reviews, and Git-based workflows.
- Collaborate with product, operations, and QA teams to ship, monitor, and improve production services.
Requirements
- Five to ten years of experience building and maintaining high-throughput, production-grade backend systems.
- Expert-level native or core PHP, including PHP 7/8, object-oriented programming, design patterns, and clean architecture.
- Proven experience with high-throughput transactional backend systems is mandatory.
- Strong SQL skills with MySQL, MariaDB, or PostgreSQL, including data modeling, optimization, debugging, and performance tuning.
- Experience designing and consuming REST and SOAP APIs.
- Comfort with Linux environments, Git, and CI/CD workflows.
- Familiarity with RabbitMQ or Kafka, Redis, asynchronous processing, and caching.
- Understanding of application security and data integrity in sensitive or financial contexts.
- Fluent English and the ability to work autonomously across time zones.
- Payment, billing, telecom, Docker, Symfony, Laravel, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Graylog, PCI-DSS, or other security and compliance experience is preferred.
