Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end performance engineering for SAP applications across browser/client, APIs, integrations, runtimes, networks, and cloud infrastructure.
- Design workload models and realistic performance scenarios using concurrency profiles, data volumes, mixed-load patterns, endurance patterns, and think-time distributions.
- Run load, stress, soak, and capacity tests against SAP BTP services, define pass/fail criteria, and make performance sign-off decisions.
- Diagnose latency and throughput across DNS, TLS, proxies, gateways, payloads, round trips, and downstream services.
- Monitor and optimize SAP Advanced Event Mesh and Kafka event-driven and publish-subscribe flows, including throughput, broker sizing, partitioning, consumer lag, replay, and backpressure.
- Tune compute, autoscaling, storage IOPS and throughput, load balancing, and cross-zone or cross-region network performance on cloud hyperscalers.
- Build production observability using metrics, traces, logs, dashboards, anomaly detection, trend detection, automated root-cause analysis, and narrative reporting.
- Own production incident response, root-cause analysis, post-go-live performance, and permanent remediation.
- Partner with HANA database performance engineers and development and functional teams to isolate and resolve performance issues.
- Participate in architecture and design reviews and establish performance engineering practices, benchmarks, criteria, and delivery-pipeline integration for the Shanghai team.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of software or performance engineering experience with ownership of enterprise cloud application performance in production.
- Experience with SAP BTP, including Cloud Foundry or Kyma, CAP, Integration Suite, and XSUAA or AppRouter, or equivalent enterprise PaaS experience with the ability to ramp quickly on BTP.
- Demonstrated ability to isolate real latency or throughput problems using telemetry and quantify results before and after remediation.
- Experience with performance testing tools such as Apache JMeter, LoadRunner Enterprise, k6, or Gatling, including workload modeling and capacity analysis.
- Practical knowledge of HTTP/2, TLS, connection pooling, timeouts, retries, DNS, and proxy behavior.
- Experience owning production incidents, including time-critical triage and written root-cause analysis.
- Professional working proficiency in English and Mandarin Chinese.
- Preferred experience with Dynatrace, AppDynamics, or Grafana for application performance monitoring and distributed tracing.
- Preferred experience with SAP BTP in China regions and SAP-managed versus customer-operated infrastructure boundaries.
- Preferred experience operating enterprise workloads on Alibaba Cloud, including networking, load balancing, and observability tooling.
- Preferred knowledge of S/4HANA, OData, Fiori, CDS-based application patterns, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Preferred experience applying AI and ML tooling to performance testing and analysis workflows.
- Working knowledge of Agile or Scrum delivery is preferred.
