Responsibilities

  • Lead cloud engineering work in cross-functional teams and make final decisions on difficult technical issues.
  • Design, deploy, and manage secure, scalable, and highly available cloud architectures and resources.
  • Use Terraform or CloudFormation to provision and manage infrastructure, containers, networking, security, and access controls.
  • Develop automated provisioning, monitoring, scaling, and CI/CD processes for cloud resources and application deployments.
  • Implement performance optimization, load balancing, caching, content delivery, backup, and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Provide high-tier client application and infrastructure support, including occasional on-call coverage.
  • Consult with clients, promote cloud best practices, and contribute thought leadership to the Cloud Practice.
  • Line manage and mentor junior colleagues and support their career development and performance.
  • Maintain compliance standards, relevant certifications, and current knowledge of cloud technologies.

Requirements

  • Significant prior experience in a cloud engineering leadership role and a strong foundation in building and deploying cloud services.
  • Deep knowledge of AWS, Azure, and GCP.
  • Hands-on experience delivering software in multiple programming languages and understanding modern software engineering practices.
  • Deep experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and other containerisation and orchestration tools.
  • Experience architecting cloud infrastructure through deployment and ongoing support.
  • Experience collaborating in multidisciplinary teams involving product, design, and technical disciplines.
  • Understanding of DevOps, SRE, and Platform Engineering in modern digital organisations.
  • Experience in a technology consultancy environment is desirable.
  • Relevant cloud certifications, including AWS or Azure certifications, are desirable.
  • Knowledge of AWS APN, Azure Partners, well-architected frameworks, UK public sector guidance, NCSC CAF, or TCoP is desirable.
  • Familiarity with Python, Bash, JavaScript, Scrum, XP, Kanban, and Test Driven Development is desirable.
  • Eligibility for SC security clearance requires five years of continuous UK residency and a five-year employment history, or history back to full-time education.
