Base Salary
$145k - $185k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, build, deploy, and validate network capture servers across participating infrastructure and operations teams.
- Develop and maintain network capture and query software using C++, Python, Rust, and Ruby with emphasis on testing, reliability, and performance.
- Build Ansible automation, configuration management, and deployment tooling for repeatable capture server provisioning.
- Participate in the weekly production support rotation by troubleshooting live capture issues, coordinating incident response, and monitoring systems proactively.
- Improve automation, monitoring, capacity planning, and production deployments.
- Onboard new capture deployments and liaise with infrastructure teams and stakeholder groups.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional systems software engineering experience and strong skills in a systems language such as Rust, C/C++, or Go, with willingness to make C++ the primary language.
- Experience with DPDK or comparable kernel-bypass packet processing, including hugepages, CPU pinning, core isolation, NUMA awareness, and poll-mode drivers.
- Strong Linux administration and production-server troubleshooting skills; RHEL-family experience is a plus.
- Solid networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, routing, switching, NICs, and packet analysis.
- Hands-on experience with server hardware and data center workflows, including builds, remote hands, rack and cabling coordination, firmware, BIOS, and out-of-band management.
- Experience with Ansible or a comparable configuration management tool.
- Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and package management; Kubernetes and Flux or Helm experience is a plus.
- Strong scripting skills in Bash, Python, Ruby, or similar.
- Experience with commercial network capture products, performance analysis tools such as perf, eBPF, flamegraphs, or tcpdump, or contributions to the DPDK ecosystem is a plus.
- Familiarity with service discovery, secrets management, metrics and dashboarding, and relational databases.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to coordinate work across infrastructure teams.
- Availability for weekly production support rotations, including some off-hours, nights, and weekends.
