Responsibilities
- Shape Trust & Safety architecture across access, identity, misuse, risk, and regulatory domains.
- Design and implement Java-based backend services and decisioning components using Spring, Spring Boot, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
- Integrate ML models and apply appropriate AI/LLM techniques for risk scoring, classification, anomaly detection, triage, and prioritization.
- Define evaluation strategies, metrics, experimentation approaches, and controls that improve protection while minimizing customer friction.
- Drive reliability, performance, observability, SLOs, alerting, runbooks, and on-call readiness for safety-critical systems.
- Ensure secure-by-design and privacy-by-design implementation aligned with security, privacy, and regulatory expectations.
- Influence product, engineering, and platform roadmaps so safety and risk controls are incorporated into customer journeys.
- Lead design reviews, architecture discussions, and technical decisions across multiple teams.
- Mentor and coach engineers and provide thought leadership on risk, abuse, identity, and AI safety.
- Prototype new safety capabilities and help evolve them into production-ready solutions.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience designing and building large-scale distributed backend systems in production.
- Extensive hands-on experience with Java, the JVM, Spring, Spring Boot, microservices, asynchronous architectures, and event-driven architectures.
- Experience in risk, security, safety, identity, access, financial or transactional flows, content or interaction integrity, or compliance-oriented systems.
- Strong understanding of service and API design, performance optimization, concurrency, resiliency, and fault-tolerant architectures.
- Experience operating cloud-native services on AWS, GCP, or equivalent, including containers, Kubernetes, managed data stores, and messaging or streaming platforms such as Kafka or Kinesis.
- Experience integrating ML models into production systems, including serving, retraining, or post-production evaluation.
- Familiarity with AI/LLM tooling and patterns for automation, classification, or workflow acceleration in safety and risk contexts.
- Strong observability and operations skills covering metrics, logs, traces, alerting, SLOs, and always-on high-availability services.
- Knowledge of secure coding, authentication and authorization, data protection, and privacy-aware system design.
- Experience influencing architecture across multiple teams, leading design reviews, collaborating with Product, Data Science/ML, and business teams, and mentoring engineers.
- Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical and security concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
