Responsibilities
- Design and implement Azure API Management architectures, advanced policies, multi-region deployments, private connectivity, developer portals, and integration patterns.
- Develop and govern API management strategies across Azure, AWS, and GCP, including vendor-agnostic standards, routing, orchestration, disaster recovery, and failover.
- Design identity and security integrations using Okta, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, certificates, API keys, and Akamai WAF.
- Integrate Azure APIM with Azure Integration Services, monitoring platforms, GitHub Actions, Artifactory, and infrastructure-as-code tooling.
- Evaluate and guide adoption of AWS API Gateway, GCP API Gateway, Apigee, MuleSoft, Kong, Gravitee, and other API management platforms.
- Define API governance, security, lifecycle, documentation, performance, compliance, and multi-environment promotion standards.
- Oversee Azure APIM operations, scaling, capacity planning, cost optimization, monitoring, SLA performance, backup, and business continuity.
- Create GitOps workflows, automated deployments, security scans, policy validation, rollback procedures, and Terraform-based infrastructure.
- Partner with architects, developers, security teams, compliance teams, cloud providers, and business stakeholders on multi-cloud initiatives.
- Mentor developers, lead proofs of concept, research emerging cloud and API management capabilities, and drive platform migrations or consolidation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; master's degree preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in software development, cloud integration, or enterprise architecture roles.
- 5+ years of hands-on Azure API Management experience in production environments.
- Experience designing and implementing enterprise-scale API solutions across at least two of Azure, AWS, and GCP.
- Expert knowledge of Azure APIM policies, products, subscriptions, versions, revisions, backends, named values, networking, private endpoints, VPN, ExpressRoute, and developer portals.
- Working knowledge of AWS API Gateway, Lambda, EKS, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, core compute and storage services, and GCP services.
- Experience with cross-cloud networking, hybrid connectivity, API gateways, Okta authentication and authorization, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML, JWT, and claims-based authorization.
- Experience with Akamai WAF or similar web application firewalls and secrets management using Azure Key Vault, AWS Secrets Manager, and GCP Secret Manager.
- Experience with GitHub, GitHub Actions, Artifactory, Terraform, ARM templates, Bicep, CloudFormation, Deployment Manager, GitOps, and automated deployment strategies.
- Extensive experience with Azure Integration Services and Azure monitoring and observability tools.
- Knowledge of .NET, Python, JavaScript, Docker, Kubernetes, AKS, EKS, GKE, YAML, JSON, RESTful architectures, microservices, cloud networking, and load balancing.
- Strong analytical, communication, leadership, stakeholder-management, and architectural decision-making skills.
- Preferred qualifications include Azure and AWS certifications, Azure APIM self-hosted gateway experience, API monetization, GraphQL, gRPC, FinOps, API migrations, and commercial real estate or professional services experience.
