Responsibilities
- Lead technical design and execution for expansions of the Universal Search platform across RMS, CAD, analytics, and related product surfaces.
- Define extensibility and integration patterns for internal and third-party data sources while balancing maintainability, security, and operational excellence.
- Review designs and pull requests involving authorization, index mappings, query paths, and service contracts.
- Coordinate multi-service releases, dependencies, risk management, and rollout strategies.
- Own permission-aware global search capabilities from discovery and design through implementation, launch, observability, and improvement.
- Mentor engineers and guide ambiguous technical decisions while raising standards for system design, testing, and maintainable code.
- Participate in on-call and support escalation, lead root-cause analysis, and improve instrumentation, alerting, support readiness, and operational playbooks.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Deep backend engineering experience with Java and full-stack development skills in React and TypeScript.
- Experience designing and integrating third-party and internal systems for search and data access across multiple product domains.
- Experience with event-driven architectures using Amazon SNS, Amazon SQS, or Kinesis.
- Strong experience with AWS services including Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions, S3, ECS/EKS, DynamoDB, Aurora/RDS, IAM, and CloudWatch.
- Experience with indexing strategies, document and schema design, query optimization, and search relevance at scale.
- Experience leading delivery in CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code environments using serverless-first, microservices-based architectures.
- Strong system-design, communication, stakeholder-influence, testing-strategy, observability, and operational-readiness skills.
- Track record of leading large projects, managing dependencies and ambiguity, and delivering high-quality outcomes.
- Proven mentorship and technical leadership, including complex debugging, design reviews, and raising engineering standards.
- Experience with platform or product capabilities spanning multiple teams, tenants, or domains is preferred.
- Familiarity with public safety, regulated, or other mission-critical software environments is preferred.
- Knowledge of authorization, data access, auditability, and query-governance security practices is preferred.
- Must be located in the United States and authorized to work without visa sponsorship.
