Responsibilities
- Design, build, and scale RDBMS and NoSQL database systems for high-throughput ingestion and analytics at petabyte scale.
- Lead cross-functional projects involving data persistence, migration, scaling, and database platform management.
- Architect and implement scale-out and sharding strategies across database clusters.
- Build Infrastructure as Code automation and tooling to improve engineering efficiency, reliability, security, and reduce operational toil.
- Collaborate with architecture, product development, and data science teams to design scalable distributed systems.
- Own production database reliability, including high availability, backups, disaster recovery, capacity planning, and performance tuning.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience building and managing large-scale, business-critical, high-throughput stateful cloud applications.
- Deep expertise optimizing and tuning PostgreSQL, MySQL, Amazon Aurora, MongoDB, and Cassandra.
- Expert-level experience with Infrastructure as Code and configuration management, such as Terraform and Ansible.
- Ability to code in Python or Java with a solid grasp of shell scripting.
- Demonstrated experience with high-availability databases and failover clustering.
- Expert-level SQL skills and experience with complex performance tuning and problem resolution.
- Strong understanding of data processing, analytics, distributed systems, and database integration with microservices architectures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate across multiple time zones.
- Experience with Patroni is a plus, while database sharding technologies such as Citus for PostgreSQL are highly preferred but not required.
