
Lead Software Engineer
MorningstarResponsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end design, development, delivery, and operation of scalable, high-performance applications.
- Drive full-stack development with a strong focus on Java backend systems and modern frontend frameworks.
- Own architecture decisions across frontend, backend, and data layers, including modernization of legacy applications.
- Ensure production systems are resilient, observable, secure, scalable, and maintainable.
- Establish code reviews, unit and integration testing, automation, shift-left quality practices, and engineering guardrails.
- Lead and mentor a squad of junior- to mid-level engineers and improve their design, coding, and debugging skills.
- Partner with Product Managers to translate business priorities into technical execution plans and manage trade-offs.
- Own delivery timelines, technical risks, blockers, technical debt, production stability, and business outcomes.
- Guide responsible use of AI-assisted development tools and contribute to documentation, technical talks, and workshops.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 7+ years of strong backend engineering experience with Java, including Spring Boot and microservices architecture.
- Experience in full-stack development using modern frontend frameworks such as Vue or React.
- Deep understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases, schema design, and performance tuning.
- Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services covering compute, storage, networking, and observability.
- Strong knowledge of system design, scalability, and distributed systems.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, monitoring, testing, and automation.
- Proven ability to lead and mentor engineering teams with strong ownership and accountability.
- Ability to balance delivery speed with quality, communicate clearly, make data-driven decisions, and operate in ambiguity.
