Base Salary
$150k - $165k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead the module-by-module modernization of a production enterprise web application while preserving compatibility with the existing Microsoft SQL Server database.
- Use Claude Code to generate, refactor, and validate code, applying engineering judgment to architectural and quality decisions.
- Develop backend, frontend, and data-layer functionality using JavaScript, Python, NestJS/Node.js, React, TypeScript, TypeORM, and Microsoft SQL Server.
- Migrate legacy BPT-style process flows to Temporal.io, including long-running processes, human task queues, timers, and conditional logic.
- Design and maintain RESTful APIs with OpenAPI/Swagger documentation and manage contracts between new and legacy modules.
- Deploy and manage solutions on AWS, Azure, or GCP using CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Establish engineering standards, conduct code reviews, and write tested, maintainable code.
- Mentor junior engineers and model effective, responsible use of AI-assisted development tools.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience delivering production systems.
- Strong TypeScript/JavaScript and Node.js experience, with NestJS or a similar backend framework.
- Solid React experience building complex, data-driven web applications.
- Experience with relational databases and ORM frameworks; Microsoft SQL Server experience is a strong plus.
- Cloud platform experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP and hands-on DevOps experience with CI/CD and containerization using Docker or Kubernetes.
- Ability to analyze and reason about legacy codebases and systems not originally built by the candidate.
- Openness to using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor, or similar tools as a core workflow component.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical decisions to engineering and non-technical stakeholders.
- Nice-to-have experience includes C# or another strongly typed backend language, data pipelines using Apache Airflow, Apache Flink, or Kafka, workflow engines such as Temporal.io or Conductor, Figma, low-code or legacy enterprise migrations, and certifications in AWS, Azure, GCP, or Kubernetes.
