Responsibilities
- Own cloud reference architectures for landing zones, account and subscription structures, networking, identity, and workload patterns.
- Define multicloud workload-placement strategy across AWS, GCP, and Azure.
- Design and maintain paved roads, golden patterns, modules, and guardrails for engineering teams.
- Resolve the most complex cloud architecture decisions and serve as the escalation point across the portfolio.
- Embed zero-trust, identity, network segmentation, resilience, failure-isolation, and blast-radius reduction patterns into architecture standards.
- Own cost architecture and apply FinOps principles to make cloud cost a first-class design constraint.
- Define infrastructure patterns for AI/ML capabilities, including compute, data access, model serving, and multi-model orchestration.
- Author cloud standards enforced through automated gates and paved-road defaults.
- Contribute to architecture governance, technology radar input, and design reviews.
- Evaluate emerging cloud-native services and recommend adoption across AWS, GCP, and Azure.
- Translate architecture trade-offs for senior technology leaders and peer architects.
- Coach Solution Architects and senior engineers through design reviews and system-level reasoning without direct reporting relationships.
- Partner with strategic cloud vendors and internal platform teams.
Requirements
- 12+ years of technology experience with deep, hands-on cloud architecture experience at Aetna Technology scale.
- Expert-level AWS architecture experience across compute, networking, identity, data, and security.
- Working proficiency in GCP and Azure for multicloud placement and design decisions.
- Demonstrated ownership of landing zones, reference architectures, and paved-road or golden-path patterns.
- Strong cloud security and zero-trust architecture knowledge, including identity, segmentation, and blast-radius reduction.
- Working knowledge of FinOps and cost-aware architecture with the ability to connect design decisions to dollar impact.
- Track record of driving technical outcomes through influence and design authority as an individual contributor.
- Experience in healthcare, health insurance, or similarly regulated industries.
- Hands-on AI/ML platform infrastructure experience, including model serving, multi-model orchestration, and supporting compute and data patterns.
- Relevant cloud certifications, such as AWS Solutions Architect Professional.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code and automated policy or guardrail enforcement.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
