Base Salary

Responsibilities
- Build, deploy, and ensure the availability of database infrastructure operating 24/7/365.
- Design, modernize, and deliver database infrastructure using software development and automation.
- Set architectural direction for database platforms and projects.
- Analyze, design, and deploy fault-tolerant, distributed, and highly available database infrastructure.
- Plan infrastructure changes through capacity forecasting, release cycles, and right-sizing.
- Perform database performance tuning, troubleshooting, administration, backup, restore, recovery, patching, and upgrades.
- Develop automation, tooling, infrastructure-as-code, and configuration management processes for scalability, resiliency, availability, recovery, reliability, and security.
- Provide infrastructure insights through metrics, monitoring, alerting, and status reporting.
- Maintain technical documentation and participate in live event support and an on-call rotation.
- Collaborate with engineering teams and leads and provide guidance to junior team members and cross-functional partners.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree preferably in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- At least 5 years of related experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Amazon RDS for SQL Server, Azure SQL, and Azure SQL MI.
- Fundamental understanding of Microsoft SQL Server database internals and SQL Server backup, restore, and recovery strategies.
- Experience designing and deploying fault-tolerant, distributed, and highly available database infrastructure.
- Experience with database availability monitoring, status reporting, disaster recovery planning, SQL Server patching, and upgrades.
- Intermediate to advanced expertise in one or more of Python, Java, or Go.
- Experience with Windows, networking, containers, and source control tools such as Git, GitLab, or GitHub.
- Preferred experience with database reliability engineering or systems reliability engineering roles and production systems in Azure and AWS.
- Preferred experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, Chef, SQL Server Always On availability groups, and production lifecycle, testing, integration, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Ability to work with little coaching or guidance and communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
